The question then is how to arrive at this state. How do we get to wellness? The common answer is exercise, but what exercise can we measure progress? How do we know if we've achieved wellness?
I believe there is an answer to these questions and Ranks Academy has developed and put into place these standards.
We have in our body 3 interlinked Postural Power Centers which, when individually strong and cohesively agile, keep us pain-free, injury resistant and receptive to more in depth training.
Wellness is achieved when this trio of interlinked muscular conditions is at play in the body.
A) Swiveling Hip Joints - No body part is as strategically critical to our Wellness than the state of the hip joint (See PowerWire 2a). Wellness is dependent on possessing this ideal hip joint.
B) Core Compression Power - The core is NOT a body part! Rather it is a body formation created when the diaphragm, pelvic floor and abdominals all inwardly compress to form an inner hydraulic fulcrum. This compressive ability stabilizes the spine and assists the limbs to work.
C) Rotator Cuff Strength - The rotator cuff of the shoulder holds the upper body upright. This prevents forward sagging that shuts down Hip mobility and keeps the core musculature from easily compressing together.
By cultivating these linked outcomes in the body we achieve a state of pain free grace and balance - a state of wellness.
Getting to "Wellness" requires zeroing in on these factors. The training is not simple and not necessarily intuitive. Each Posture Center has unique challenges for development. But, to become a great 60, 70, 80 year old, these 3 conditions are imperative.
