Ranks Academy Announces Adam Poock to present at HealthCamp Boston 2014 on November 3, 2014

Dedham, MA - October 2014 - Ranks Academy is proud to announce that Adam Poock will be giving an interactive demonstration at HealthCamp Boston 2014.

Adam Poock has been an advocate for the older athlete for over 15 years developing innovative evaluations, protocols, training and tracking procedures in order to define what wellness means to the older athlete's health. As part of the HeathCamp Boston 2014, he will lead a participatory, Active Recovery Session - Fighting the Effects of Too Much Sitting with "SMALLS". Adam will demonstrate;
  • How sitting fosters Posture-Loss and Pain by freezing surprisingly small movement mechanisms at the hips and low back,
  • "SMALLS" as 30-second antidotes of strategic self-care massage reversing these freezes,
  • How to develop habits to protect your individual health and design a powerful, effective self wellness program for yourself.

Ranks Academy believes the challenge is obvious and pressing. We desire to stay young longer and a perfect storm of demographics and economics is upon us. We have to develop ourselves well beyond what used to be called "retirement" - 65 is Going Away. We must replace the word "senior" with term more appropriate, more powerful - The Ranks Member.

Defining Wellness - Finally

A health and fitness buzzword I've never been crazy about is "Wellness". The term is just too unclear & mushy. Prevention and all of its ramifications are serious!

Ranks Academy is taking the ambiguous idea of wellness and giving it DEFINITION in the form of parameters, standards, measurements and tests with the new "Getting to Wellness" programs.

Wellness done right is perhaps the greatest asset we can have! Ranks Academy is transforming a vague notion into concrete objectives with "Getting to Wellness".

What does "Wellness" mean?

Pathway to Wellness

One of the murkiest terms marketed in 40+ health and fitness is "Wellness." But what does "wellness"  mean? Intuitively, it is a hypothetical state - a state where we are considered, well. We can define this state with sensations and feelings we would experience if we were there:

  • Being Free of Pain.
  • Functioning Smoothly - Having very good balance.
  • Not being in imminent risk of illness or injury.
  • Pre-disposed to benefit from more vigorous training, instead of being injured by it.

The question then is how to arrive at this state. How do we get to wellness? The common answer is exercise, but what exercise can we measure progress? How do we know if we've achieved wellness?

I believe there is an answer to these questions and Ranks Academy has developed and put into place these standards.

3 interlinked Postural Power Centers

We have in our body 3 interlinked Postural Power Centers which, when individually strong and cohesively agile, keep us pain-free, injury resistant and receptive to more in depth training.

Wellness is achieved when this trio of interlinked muscular conditions is at play in the body.

A) Swiveling Hip Joints - No body part is as strategically critical to our Wellness than the state of the hip joint (See PowerWire 2a). Wellness is dependent on possessing this ideal hip joint.

B) Core Compression Power - The core is NOT a body part! Rather it is a body formation created when the diaphragm, pelvic floor and abdominals all inwardly compress to form an inner hydraulic fulcrum. This compressive ability stabilizes the spine and assists the limbs to work.

C) Rotator Cuff Strength - The rotator cuff of the shoulder holds the upper body upright. This prevents forward sagging that shuts down Hip mobility and keeps the core musculature from easily compressing together.

Reach New HeightsBy cultivating these linked outcomes in the body we achieve a state of pain free grace and balance - a state of wellness.

Getting to "Wellness" requires zeroing in on these factors. The training is not simple and not necessarily intuitive. Each Posture Center has unique challenges for development. But, to become a great 60, 70, 80 year old, these 3 conditions are imperative.

At Ranks Academy we have developed innovative evaluations, protocols, training and tracking procedures getting you to Wellness.
